A study in the Journal of Optometry (Dec 2011) found that many Retinitis Pigmentosa sufferers had a noticeable improvement in visual quality using a specific therapeutic pigmented lens. This lens gave improved contrast-sensitivity (the ability to differentiate between two similarly-colored objects) and better depth perception with indoor and outdoor applications. These glasses are pigmented to be used in both indoor and outdoor applications. While they are not as dark as many sunglasses, the therapeutic pigment is designed specifically to aid in visual acuity improvement in many Retinitis Pigmentosa sufferers. Due to the variations in the visual acuity of Retinitis Pigmentosa sufferers, we cannot guarantee this lens to be helpful in all cases. Some will see a remarkable improvement, while others will see only a marginal benefit. Depending on the severity of the condition, a few may not experience an improvement at all.
