You’re Going To Love Your New Pilot Glasses

This innovation came about when one of our Opticians took flying lessons and asked himself “Can’t the optical industry do better than this for pilots?” After making himself a pair of “Pilot Glasses”, he found they had a secondary use of being handy when at the workbench as well. Due to the extra-large reading area, the glasses were perfect for working on a number of projects around the house and workshop. Most regular eyeglasses have a bifocal that allows us to focus at 18″. However, the instrument panel is generally closer to 26″ away. This means one must lean forward in order position the instrument panel at 18″ away. HDRX’s Pilot Glasses are customized to your instrument panel distance, allowing you to sit back and still see the panel clearly. The reading are of HDRX’s Pilot Glasses is set slightly higher than regular eyewear. This allows the pilot to see clearly without having to crane the chin up to see through the reading area.

HDRx Pilot Glasses are designed for the pilot who normally uses a powered bifocal to see clearly for text and up close situations. Our pilot glasses were designed by an optician who was taking pilot lessons and knew there had to be a better option.

Since its always sunny above the clouds we knew there had to be a sunglass option with 100% UVA and UVB protection and a clear area to see the instrument panel.

When we custom make your Pilot glasses we dial in your prescription for the distance from your eyes to the instrument panel. In most cases around 26 inches, much greater than the average reading glasses around 18 inches.

The ability to have glasses that fit snuggly on the ears without breaking the seal from the standard earphones was also an issue that needed to be addressed.

The standard Polarized lenses on the market were not conducive to what a pilot needs to see when in the air. Polarized lenses are designed to reduce glare which is exactly what a pilot doesn’t need, they need to see the glare of another aircraft in the distance, which when wearing a polarized lens does, virtually making the site of an oncoming aircraft invisible.

HDRx Pilot glasses are tinted on the top and clear on the bottom. Since we custom make every pair of glasses you have options on the tint colors and the lens demarcation line from bifocal to distance.

When ordering your pilot glasses we will be asking you a series of questions to make sure they are custom fit for you situation. You will speak directly to one of our USA board certified opticians to make sure your glasses are exactly what you need.

When ordering you will have the option of the same lenses but all clear for nighttime flying, we will offer a substantial discount for your second pair when you order.

We can also take your current glasses and retrofit them with HDRx Pilot lenses.

Pilot Eyewear

High Definition Lenses Better visual acuity than standard lenses using corrected-curve technology to make the lens more customized.  The aspheric design diminishes marginal-astigmatism and chromatic aberration, which cause visual acuity loss, especially in the periphery of eyewear.  Made from superior ophthalmic lens material and block UVA, UVB, and UVC ultra-violet radiation.  Includes a superior scratch resistance to keep you seeing better, longer.

OR

Standard Lenses Still a great lens!  Even our standard lenses rival the best in the industry.  Made from superior ophthalmic lens material and block UVA, UVB, and UVC ultra-violet radiation.  Includes a superior scratch resistance to keep you seeing better, longer.

Transitions Lenses  These lenses are clear at night and turn dark during the day.  This is the preferred lens due to its automatic tint mechanism.  During the day, the lens is a medium gray, which allows for excellent color-perception.

Clear Lenses  Recommended for night use and limited day use.  Not recommended for use on sunny days when a tinted lens would work better.

OR

Gray Gradient Sun Lenses   Recommended for day use for the light sensitive pilot.  This lens remains a pleasing dark gray all the time.  This specific shade of gray is great for allowing you to still see all colors well.

OR

Brown Gradient Sun LensesTop of lens is dark, while the bottom of the lens is lighter shaded, allowing for easier instrument viewing.  This lens remains dark brown all the time and incorporates  a high-color-contrast-sensitivity shading that makes objects more distinct.  For example, a light-colored airplane may be easier to spot against the backdrop of a light-colored cloud.

 Single Vision Distance Only

OR

Bifocal Lens with Extra Large Instrument Viewing AreaMost bifocals are only 28mm wide.  This custom lens is a pleasing 35mm wide, allowing for excellent viewing of more of the instrument panel.  Most bifocal lenses allow you to read well at 16-18”, but the reading area on these Pilot glasses is custom set to your specific instrument-viewing distance.
